How can machine learning help us to develop next generation applications?

Tutorial

Talk from the Vision trade fair.

Despite number of success stories, machine learning is not yet widely adopted by the machine vision community. Why is it so? What are the stumbling blocks for widespread practical use? How to make sure machine learning will help my project to succeed without wasting valuable time and effort?
In this presentation, we address such questions with real-world examples. We discuss the benefits of machine learning but also describe practical risks and costs involved when implementing it in vision projects. We will demonstrate, that with the right methodology machine learning becomes a key R&D tool speeding up development and increasing robustness of smart products.

November perClass training course

pattern recognition course for industry

From the blog

Last perClass course ended with a positive feeling of having met and shared knowledge and expertise with nice professionals. This time we could focus more on imaging applications, as all participants are working with image or video data.
It was very nice to see a participant implementing early in the course the bindings of perClass runtime to his primary development environment (VisionLab). Another participant tested classifier deployment in Cognex Vision Pro via Visual Basic and .Net interface. This have now given them an entire new range of classification capabilities!

Impressions from Vision Fair

From the blog

With over 400 exhibitors, this year Vision trade fair in Stuttgart was bigger than ever. At our stand, we illustrated capabilities perClass software with two new live demos on gender classification and wood defect detection. People responded with lot of interest. It was also nice to meet some old customers and colleagues.
This year our presentation on machine learning was selected for international vision days conference. We're happy to share that our talk was very well attended and sparkled nice followup discussions.
