How can machine learning help us to develop next generation applications?
Recording of our presentation at Industrial Vision Days conference accompanying VISION14 Trade Fair in Stuttgart, Germany. Dr.Pavel Paclik, PR Sys Design

Abstract Emerging vision applications deal with natural objects, recognize people behaviour and operate in unconstrained environments. Integral part of these systems is a machine learning technology training statistical models from many observations. Despite number of success stories, machine learning is not yet widely adopted by the machine vision community. Why is it so? What are the stumbling blocks for widespread practical use? How to make sure machine learning will help my project to succeed without wasting valuable time and effort? In this presentation, we will address such questions with real-world examples. We will discuss the benefits of machine learning but also describe practical risks and costs involved when implementing it in vision projects. We will demonstrate, that with the right methodology machine learning becomes a key R&D tool speeding up development and increasing robustness of smart products.
